The Beauty of Western Sicily: Trapani, San Vito Lo Capo, and the Island of Favignana

Italian Trapani and surroundings

Trip to Italian Trapani – A Pleasant Surprise

A trip to Trapani in Italy brought pleasant surprises and exceeded my expectations. I felt the need to capture my impressions through aerial photography – because those views from above truly reflect the atmosphere this place offers. We experienced it up close, and this is how it looked from a distance.

If you’re looking for a combination of turquoise sea, white sandy beaches, medieval alleyways, and natural beauty, western Sicily will enchant you. Among the most stunning locations in the region are San Vito Lo Capo, the historic town of Trapani, and the island of Favignana – all captured in these aerial and street-level photos.

San Vito Lo Capo – A Paradise for Beach Lovers

San Vito Lo Capo is known for its wide sandy beach stretching beneath the dramatic Monte Monaco. The turquoise water, laid-back vibe, and the scent of couscous in the air make it a favorite destination not only for tourists but also for photographers.

Trapani – A Historic Port Shaped Like a Sickle

Trapani draws you into its narrow streets, baroque squares, and seaside promenade. The town has a long history as an important port – dating back to ancient times when it played a key role in the salt trade. The salt pans around the city are still in use today. Interestingly, Trapani is shaped like a sickle or a fishhook, a unique form best appreciated from an aerial view.

Favignana – An Island with a Slower Rhythm

Favignana Island, part of the Egadi archipelago, offers a completely different rhythm – crystal-clear coves, secluded beaches, and former tuna factories that have been transformed into museums. It’s a perfect spot for a day trip from Trapani.

While you can explore the island by scooter or a small buggy, I found an electric bike to be the most suitable option – a versatile means of transport for both younger travelers and seniors.
