Botswana: Okawango Delta

The biggest inland river delta

Okawango delta is the biggest inland river delta in the world.  It is located in northern Botswana and in it’s center  we can find Moremi game reserve. It is great animal habitat. You can find here elephants, hippos, and crocodiles as well as the wildlife includes lions, leopards, giraffes and rhinos. Locals travel in Mokoro’s – dugout wooden canoe, and as a visitor you can get a guide and try this wilderness yourself.

Geographical facts:
Okawango river is the fourth longest river system in southern africa. The Okavango Delta is also known as Okavango Swamp. This large inland delta is formed where the Okavango River reaches a tectonic trough in the central part of the endorheic basin of the Kalahari. All the water reaching the Delta is ultimately evaporated and transpired, and does not reach into any sea or ocean
