10 best hikes in Slovakia

 

What are the best treks in Slovakia? It truly depends on what you are looking for. there are more difficult treks or less difficult touristic hikes.

Basically any track in High Tatra Mountains is nice, and I think you simply can make only a good choice and will enjoy it.
Here are few treks I recommend:

Easy and Medium very popular treks

  1. Hrebienok, Zamkovskeho chata – Teryho chata and back (1 day)
  2. Hrebienok, Zamkovskeho chata – Skalnate pleso – Smokovec (1 day)
  3. Hrebienok,  Brncalova cottage (1 day)
  4. Hrebienok, Zbojnicka chata and back (1 day)
  5. Hrebienok, Zamkovskeho chata – Teryho chata, Zbojnicka cottage Hrebienok (2 days)
  6. Sliezky dom (easy) (1 day)

More difficult treks:

  1. Končistá,
  2. Lomnicky pik  (Lomničák, Lomnický štít)
  3. Gerlach
  4. Vysoká

Other very popular treks/hikes:

Starting point: Smokovec
Point where to turn back: Teryho chata
End point Smokovec
Total time: approximately 6 hours there and back (+ counts few breaks on cottages for a tea, or looking around , it can take longer)

Teryho cottage is in 2015 meters. This is favourite trek/hike, which requires people to be fit. You can see amazing Lomnicky peak from here (the other side comparing to Skalnate lake).
environment around is great for climbing, skialps and also for relax.

2. Hrebienok, Zamkovskeho chata – Skalnate pleso – Smokovec

Difficulty : Low Medium
Starting point: Hrebienok
Goint through: Zamkovskeho chata to Skalnate pleso, and you can either walk down to Smokovec, (1.5 hours) or take a cable car.
End point Tatranska Lomnica
Total time: approximately 5 hours  (+ counts few breaks on cottages for a tea etc , it can take longer)

3. Hrebienok,  Brncalova cottage

Total time: approximately 6 hours there and back (+ counts few breaks on cottages for a tea, or looking around, it can take a bit longer)

 

5. Hrebienok, Teryho cottage ==> Zbojnicka cottage ==> Hrebienok (2 days)

Starting point: Hrebienok
Going through: Teryho cottage, you can stay overnight there, and next day continue to Zbojnicka cottage and then to Hrebienok
End point Hrebienok
Total time: 2 days, at relaxing speed while observing amazing nature of Tatra mountains, and spending a night there at (2015 meters cottage)
This hike is combination of trek number 1 and number 4.

More difficult treks (quality treks):

1. Lomnicky peak  (Lomničák, Lomnický štít 2634m / 8636 feet )

These treks are very steep. There are approx 3 paths to go up to Lomnicky peak and they take from 2.5 to 5.5 hours.
Remember you need to return back from the peak 🙂

1st path 

Difficulty : 
Starting point: Skalnate lake 
Gougng through: Take sitting cable way to Lomnicke sedlo, and then continue walking
End point: Lomnicky peak
Total time: 2.5 hours – 1 way

2nd path 

Difficulty : Very difficult
Starting point: Teryho cottage
End point: Lomnicky peak (please remember, you need to return, you cannot stay at the top)
Total time: 

3rd path 

Difficulty : 
Starting point: from Cottage at Green lake
End point: Lomnicky peak (please remember, you need to return, you cannot stay at the top)
Total time: 5 hours

2. Gerlach peak (Gerlachovský štít)

This is the highest peak of Tatra Mountains and also of whole Carpathian mountains.

It’s height is 2654 meters (8701ft).

Carpathian mountains go across Czech Republic,  in the northwest through Slovakia, southern Poland, east Hungary and Ukraine to Romania and very little Serbia in the south.

3. Čingov, Podlesok in Slovak Paradise

The most popular trek in north part of Slovak paradise.

There are 2 touristic places Cingov and Podlesok. They are connected with a trek 15km long which goes through canyon near the river Hornad. Thee are various bridges, ladders, chains steps, which help in walking safely.
